Brooke Branigan shot a second day 82 to lead the Bellingham girls' golf team to its 11th state team title in 12 years and took third individually at the Class 2A Girls' Golf State Tournament held at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway on Wednesday, May 22.

Cherokee Kim from Steilacoom won the individual title after shooting 77-79 for 156.

Branigan shot an 84-82 for 166 total during the tournament.

"I struggled a little bit at the beginning but was able to stay in it," Branigan said in a phone interview. "Yesterday I struggled the whole time but today I was able to bring it back, which was nice."

Branigan didn't have any score worse than a bogey on the day. She said avoiding the big numbers enabled her to finish strong. Third is the highest position Branigan has finished at state.

Bellingham coach Brad McKay said Branigan was able to hit a lot of greens and make more putts Wednesday than Tuesday. He said she had one of the better back nines of the tournament.

Jenn Paul took fourth after shooting an 82-87 for a total of 169, Audrey Orem shot an 80-95 for a total of 175 and Madi McNeely shot an 85-94 for 179 total for the Red Raiders.

Bellingham had a total team score of 144.5, and second place Fife scored 66, meaning the Red Raiders outscored them by 78.5 points.

"It was exciting to be able to take one of our most experienced teams and actually get it done," McKay said in a phone interview. "We had a lot of experience and they all knew what they were getting into and knew what kind of a grind it was. Their experience showed through and to have four finish in the top 10 is quite an accomplishment."

Lynden's Emily Ming took twelfth after shooting 89-92 for 181 total.

Riley Andert finished 96-100 for 196 total and Courtney Flannery finished 102-124 for 226 total for Squalicum.
