Whatcom People: County students win recognition at University of Portland, Air Force, University of Michigan Law School

These Bellingham students recently graduated from the University of Portland, in Oregon: Aaron Doud, bachelor's degree, physics; Emily Hart, bachelor's, elementary education; Melanie Pierce, bachelor's, physics; Bianca Singh, bachelor's, communication; Amy Smith, bachelor's, nursing; and Rachel Thomas, bachelor's, drama.

OTHER HONORS

• U.S. Air Force Airman Tyler Bredman graduated from basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Bredman earned distinction as an honor graduate. The son of David Bredman of Bellingham and Cindi Beua of Marysville, he is a 2012 graduate of Squalicum High School.

• Alisa Whitfield graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, where she received the Jane L. Mixer Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to activities designed to advance the cause of social justice. Whitfield graduated in 2004 from Bellingham High School and in 2008 from Stanford University.
