Bellingham soccer falls in state quarterfinals, 1-0

The Bellingham boys' soccer team saw its season come to an end at the hands of Ridgefield in a 1-0 loss on Saturday, May 18, at Battle Ground in the Class 2A State quarterfinals.

Ridgefield scored the lone goal of the game in the 44th minute.

"We just had a little too high of a line, and their attack got behind and finished," Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview.

Zigulis added that although his team came out flat, and after the goal was scored in the onset of the second period, he thought his team came together and controlled the rest of the half.

"They got their goal in the second half and then we were able to turn the momentum," he said.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn't result in a goal.

"We weren't able to find the goal, and it wasn't for a lack of chances," Zigulis said. "We just couldn't get anything to find the net."
