Two seniors, guard John Allen and forward Paul Jones, shared the team's Most Valuable Player award at the annual Western Washington University men's basketball banquet held Thursday, May 16, at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
Three Vikings won two awards each. Junior center Austin Bragg was the Price/Visser Rebounding and Rebounder of the Year; senior forward Damien Fisher was awarded the Fred Lewis Memorial Winter Scholar-Athlete and Practice Player of the Year; and senior forward Cameron Severson was awarded the Stat Player and Most Improved Player.
Also winning awards were sophomore forward Anye Turner, who won the Joe Morse Most Inspirational Player; senior guard Rico Wilkins, who won the Rich Baxter Hustle Award; and junior guard Richard Woodworth, who won the Chuck Randall Coaches Award.
WWU finished 31-3, setting a school record for winning percentage at 91.2 and tying the mark for most wins. The Vikings reached the NCAA II final four after winning the West Regional crown and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 17-1 record, the best in league history.
