WWU men's hoops signs player from Hawaii


Nick Velasquez, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound shooting guard from Honolulu, Hawaii, has signed a national letter of intent to play men's basketball at Western Washington University beginning this fall.

Velasquez was a first-team all-state pick and Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I Player of the Year as a senior at Punahou High School.

Velasquez led the Buff n' Blue to a 23-8 record and third place at state tournament, averaging 14.6 points per game with career-high 28 vs. Maryknoll. He was named to the state all-tournament team.
