Bellingham's defense shines in 3-0 win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 15, 2013

The Bellingham softball team defeated Darrington 3-0 on Tuesday, May 14, at Bellingham in a non-conference matchup.

The Red Raiders got their offense going early, scoring two runs in the first inning off a two-RBI hit by Vanja Flones. The defense for Bellingham was particularly strong, as the Red Raiders didn't commit a single error despite starting pitcher Amaya Johnson inducing nine ground-ball outs.

"For us to make all of those plays without an error is just huge," Bellingham coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. "Make routine plays and you can keep yourself in the ball game."

Paige Jacobsen added an RBI of her own in the fifth to seal the 3-0 win.
