The Ferndale softball team responded to a 10-inning, one-run loss to Glacier Peak in the opening round of the Class 3A Northwest Disctrict Tournament with a 9-1 win over Oak Harbor in the consolation first round on Tuesday, May 14, at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett.
"It was the most amazing game we've played all year," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said of the 10-inning loss to Glacier Park in a phone interview. "I'm still in awe of how we played. We had three plays at home for outs, two were double plays. It was incredible. We played outstanding defense."
Lauren Maley pitched all 10 innings while striking out five and walking three.
In the second game, Ferndale got off to a quick start, scoring six runs over the first two innings. Corrie Wilson had a home run and three RBI, and Collette Brown added three RBI of her own in the win.
"What we're most proud of is how these kids have come along all season and battled through," Hilton said.
The Golden Eagles try to keep the season alive in a loser-out game against Shorecrest at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett. Ferndale must win two games Thursday to stay alive.
