Blaine pairing nabs alternate spot

The pairing of Alicia Allison and Shirin Roth-Lerner from Blaine defeated South Whidbey's Isla Dubendorf and Hannah Calderwood in straight sets, 6-2 6-4, on Saturday, May 11, to become alternates for the Class 1A Tri-District tournament.

"The doubles match was played well on both sides," Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview. "They kept their wits about them and kept a bit of variety in their game."

The duo will play at tri-districts only if another team that has already made it gets disqualified.

Unfortunetly it wasn't all good news for Blaine, as Saskia Dolk lost to Coupeville's Amanda d'Almeida in straight sets, 6-1 7-6.

"She was down 5-1 and made it to a tie-breaker," Freal said. "Her opponent from Coupeville played well."

Singles: Amanda d'Almeida (Coupeville) def. Saskia Dolk 6-1 7-6.

Doubles: Alicia Allison/Shirin Roth-Lerner (Blaine) def. Isla Dubendorf/Hannah Calderwood (South Whidbey) 6-2 6-4.
