Benson leads Lions to 12-1 win

The Lynden softball team scored 11 runs in the third inning to defeat Orcas Island 12-1 in five innings in a non-conference game at home Friday, May 10.

"Orcas is a really good small school team," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "We swang the bats well and were able to play a bunch of our young kids. Orcas played good defense, threw strikes and put the ball in play. It was a good game."

Mandy Warner went 2 for 3 with two runs, Hannah Rothwell went 3 for 3 with four RBI and Destinee Matter went 2 for 4 with three RBI for the Lions (16-4). Tanna Benson earned the win and went 3 for 3 with three RBI.

Lynden will begin play in the Class 2A District 1/2 Tournament on Wednesday, May 15, against Cedarcrest at Bender Fields.
