Meridian's Rautenberg has career day at 1A tournament

Meridian's Abbi Rautenberg shot a career-best 82 at North Bellingham Golf Course at the 1A Northwest District girls' golf tournament.

Words eluded her when trying to explain how she felt about the career day in the near perfect conditions.

"It's hard to explain," the Meridian golfer said. "I just can't put it into words."

Rautenberg was able to sink two 30-foot putts to help cruise to a birth to Tri-Districts next week. Although left with little explanation as to why she had the day she did, Rautenberg did say that she was pleased with the way she struck the ball and the way she putted on the greens.

"I was just good all around, today," she said. "I felt really good, although it was an on and off day, at times."

Rautenberg wasn't able to win the day outright, as Jenna Kiak from South Whidbey also shot an 82 to tie with Rautenberg for the top score.

Joining Rautenberg from Whatcom County at Tri-Districts will be Laura Wilson of Mount Baker, who shot an 84, and Young Lee of Blaine, who shot a 92. Unfortunately, Mount Baker's Baylee Backstrom and Amy Wilson missed the cut line of 104 by one and three strokes, respectively. Emily Greathouse of Blaine missed the cutline by four strokes after ending her day with a round of 109.
