Mountaineers fall 1-0, must win next game to advance

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 10, 2013

The Mount Baker boys' soccer team lost 1-0 in a winner-to-state game against Cascade Christian on Thursday, May 9, at Sammamish High School in the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament.

Mount Baker will play an opponent to be determined in the sixth-place winner-to-state game Friday, May 9, at Sammamish High School.

"We controlled pretty much the entire game, especially the second half," Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgenson said in a phone interview. "I don't think they crossed into our half in the second half. We kept putting the pressure on them and their keeper made some saves."

Nathan Rossendal converted a penalty kick in the 33rd minute for Cascade Christian and Bryce Logan could only get his fingertips on it.

"It was shoulder to shoulder outside of the box and it shouldn't have been called," Jorgenson said. "They finished it. We just couldn't finish our opportunities in front of the net. Their keeper made some great saves. I thought Zan Roman really put in some great crosses and made some great runs down the side."

Logan made three saves in the effort for the Mountaineers.
