The Mount Baker softball team jumped out to an eight run lead to win 10-0 at Meridian in a Northwest Conference game Wednesday, May 8.
"Errors were a big part of it," Meridian coach Tony Johnson said in a phone interview. "Mount Baker got out 2-0 right away and we made a couple of errors that led to their runs. You can't give good hitting teams extra outs. Innings three through six were awesome and we had great D and good pitches but boy we need to be consistent from first to last to be successful."
The Mountaineers (4-7 NWC, 10-9) were led by Aysha Schwinden, who went 3 for 3 with two runs and Megan Young, who went 2 for 4.
Meridian (3-9 NWC, 5-14) was led by Kendra Holmes, who went 2 for 3 and Ashley Veenstra, who went 1 for 3.
Aleks Toivola earned the win for the Mountaineers.
"It was a good game for us to get back on track and get better seeding for the postseason," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "Hopefully that gives us some momentum to go into the district tournament."
This was the last regular season game for either team before the Class 1A Northwest Conference Tournament begins Friday, May 10.
