Meridian's McMillen heading to Tri-Districts

Meridian's Relijah McMillen jumped a 19-09.25 in the long jump on Wednesday, May 8, at the Class 1A Sub-District meet at Lynden Christian, earning him a trip to the 1A Tri-District meet Thursday, May 16.

The top five placers in the boys' high jump and 1,600 and the girls' 3,200 and triple jump qualified for the Class 1A Tri-Districts, whereas every other event that occurred Wednesday provided the qualifiers for the Class 1A District Championships.

McMillen also qualified for the Class 1A District Championships happening Friday, May 10, after running the fastest time in the 100 prelims and the second fastest time in the 200.

Mount Baker's Dillon Quintana earned himself a trip to Tri-Districts with a win in the 1,600. Blaine's Eddie Fontes and Meridian's Kelby Todd and Collin Magnusson also qualified for the Tri-District meet.

Blaine's Brad Whitley and Tom Bradley earned trips to the District Championships after grabbing top times in the 400 and 800, respectively.

As for the girls' meet, Meridian's Mimi Meggison, McKenzie Roque and Sydney Gray all qualified for Tri-Districts after finishing 2-3-4 in the 3,200. Mount Baker's Kelsie Nern will also join the Meridian trio at Tri Districts.

The other qualifying event for the girls' Tri-District meet was the triple jump, and Meridian's Leyla Marino topped that with a jump of 32-10.

Blaine's Kieya Villars topped the field in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.73 seconds, qualifying her for the District Championships.
