Take Mom out on Mother's Day to enjoy the blooming azaleas and rhododendrons, enjoy refreshments, mingle with plein-air artists in action, listen to local poets share their works, and listen to Celtic harpist Kathie Hardy between 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12. The Alabama Hill park's address is 2900 Sylvan St., but due to limited parking a free shuttle will be transporting guests from Bloedel Donovan Park to the park.

The event is part of the park's 20th anniversary celebration, sponsored by the Bellingham Arts Commission, Friends of Big Rock Garden Park and the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department.

In addition, Sculpture Northwest and the Sculptors' Society of British Columbia is sponsoring a sculpture exhibit in the park, a tribute to David Marshall, a Canadian sculptor who died in 2006 and was one of the founders of the sculpture exhibits at the park.
