Michael Koenen and Jake Locker to host flag football game, summer camp

Former Whatcom County and current NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Michael Koenen and Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker will be hosting a Friday Night Lights Flag Football Game event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Ferndale High School.

A $3 donation or two cans of food is being requested for admission to the game. All proceeds will benefit local food banks.

The Michael Koenen/Jake Locker Charity NFL Kids Football Camp will be the following day on Saturydam June 29.

The came is free for kids ages 8-14. Interested campers can now register at www.koenenfoundation.com.

WHATCOM WARRIORS LACROSSE IMPROVES TO 10-0

The Whatcom Warriors lacrosse beat Shorecrest High School 15-9 Wednesday, May 1 to imrove their season record to 10-0.

Senior midfielder Aiden Sands scored three goals and made two assists, senior attackman Dylan Bruce added four goals and four assists and Zacj Morris and Coby Veenstra each scored two goals. Defenders Nick Estrada and Garrett Remsen also scored.

KEMP RECORDS HOLE-IN-ONE

Golfer Doug Kemp recorded a hole-in-one Sunday, May 5, at Lake Padden Golf Course.

Kemp used an 8-iron and made his ace on hole No. 16.

BELLINGHAM TENNIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

The Bellingham Tennis Club is offering up to four scholarships valued over $11,356 for high school tennis players for 2013-14.

The scholarship terms are for one year, beginning July 1, 2013 and concluding June 30, 2014. Applications are due Saturday, June 1.

"Sometimes all it takes for a good player to become a great player in that extra push through expert instruction," club owner Robin Robertson said in a press release. "We love seeing the progress that each of our tennis scholarship recepients make every year, with many of the kids earning a berth at the state tournament and going on the play at tennis in college at a variety of levels."

The BTC scholarship includes a one-year membership at BTC with court booking privilege, a summer tennis camp, twelve semi-private lessons, two free seven-week tennis clinics, free entry into BTC tennis tournaments and a scholarship valued over $2,839 per recipient.

To apply, students must bet a sophomore, junior of senior in fall 2013. Scholarship winners will be chose based of academics, community service, commitment to tennis, financial need, talent/potential and goals as a student athlete.

The BTC Tennis Scholarhsip application can be found at www.bellinghamtennis.com. Interested students should download the application and submit it with a one-page esay on or before the entry deadline. Winners will be announced Saturday, June 15.

WESTERN JUDO CLUB COMPETES IN SEATTLE TOURNAMENT

Western Judo Club members Jamie Kobara, Owen Hauck, Gary Gokey, Calvin Lu, Mike Sullivan and Jacob Standaert competed in the Seattle Dojo Annual Judo Tournament Saturday, May 4, at the South Bellevue Community Center.

Kobara earned two wins and took second in the Senior Women's Brown/Black Belt Division, Lu and Gokey went 1-2 but didn't earn a podium spot and Sullivan finished second in the Senior Male Brown/Black Belt Heavyweight Division.
