Whatcom residential sales jump in April

April was a busy month for Whatcom County real estate sales, according to a new report.

Last month local real estate agents sold 212 single-family homes and condominiums, a 30.1 percent increase compared to April 2012, according to data compiled by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. It's the highest monthly total since August 2012.

The median price for those homes and condos sold last month was $248,250, up 1.3 percent compared to a year earlier.

More homes and condos are also coming on the market. Last month Whatcom County had 447 new listings, up 18.9 percent compared to a year earlier. That's the highest monthly total since May 2012.

Across the 21 counties the NWMLS serves, home and condo sales totaled 6,209 last month, up 19.9 percent compared to a year earlier. The median price was $269,950, up 12.5 percent year over year.

In Skagit County, 125 homes and condos sold in April, up 21.4 percent compared to a year ago. The median price for those Skagit sales was $228,000, a 20 percent increase compared to April 2012.
