FERNDALE - A woman who works in social service will challenge Brent Goodrich for his seat on the City Council.

Stacy Miller, 48, is a program manager at the Bellingham-Whatcom County Commission Against Domestic Violence, working with the Ferndale schools on a program to reduce teen dating violence. Previously she worked for the state to reduce unemployment. Before that, she wrote grants for low-income housing at Skagit County Community Action Agency.

"I'm very comfortable working with elected officials and their constituents to solve local problems," Miller said in her campaign announcement, released Monday, May 6.

Incumbent Goodrich, who has served one term, announced his bid for re-election last week.
