Pacific NerdWest brings geeky good times to Bellingham


BELLINGHAM - Downtown Bellingham will be a playground for nerds May 10-12, as the city plays host to NERF wars, panels and role-playing games for the Pacific NerdWest festival.

The festival will open Friday evening, May 10, with a meet and greet at Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, followed by activities at a variety of downtown locations Saturday and Sunday.

A live-action role-playing game will take attendees on quests to downtown businesses and landmarks Saturday and Sunday, with costumed helpers providing guidance.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be an auction at the Leopold Crystal Ballroom, as well as a vendor area featuring art, collectibles and other items.

At Maritime Heritage Park, there will be foam-weapon boffing on Saturday afternoon, with a NERF capture the flag war Sunday afternoon.

Mt. Baker Theatre's Encore Room will be set up for people to play retro video games Saturday and Sunday, and its Walton Theatre will host activities and panels, including guest speaker Neil Grayston, who played Fargo on the popular SyFy show "Eureka."

Tickets for the event are $20, with proceeds going to Child's Play, a charity that helps provide games and toys to children in hospitals.
