Baker powers past Friday Harbor, 11-1

The Mount Baker softball team defeated Friday Harbor 11-1 in five innings on Saturday, May 4, at Mount Baker in a non-league game.

The Mountaineers got their offense going in the third inning, scoring three runs including a big two-run double by Emily Yost. Yost finished the game a perfect 4 for 4 with five RBI.

A three-run third led the way for a four-run fourth and fifth inning that put the game out of reach for Mount Baker.

"The next two innings, we really put the pressure on them by putting the ball in play," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "The last inning, we got the bases loaded with no outs, and then we were able to get four RBI's in a row."

Lacey Postlewait finished the game 4 for 4 with an RBI, and Aleks Toivola threw five innings of one-run ball while striking out seven.

"Friday Harbor loaded the bases in the top if the fifth with now outs, and she struck out the next two girls and then caught a line drive to end the inning," Lepper said. "I thought that was a big deal."

Mount Baker (9-8, NWC 4-6) travels to Anacortes in a Northwest Conference matchup on Tuesday, May 7.
