Sehome tops Bellingham in regular season finale

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 5, 2013

The Sehome girls' tennis team defeated Bellingham 6-1 on Saturday, May 4, at Sehome in the final regular season match of the year.

The two top teams in the division decided to play the final match in an all-doubles format to get a chance for everyone to play.

"It was nice to see who we might see entering the post season," Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview. "It was obviously the season-ender for both teams, and it was very competitive."

The highlight match of the day was the No. 1 doubles between Sehome's Lauren Smith and Andrea Clawson and Bellingham's Bella Hoyos and Cari Pearsall.

The freshman/sophomore tandem combined to defeat the two seniors in three sets.

"It was the first time I matched Lauren and Andrea together," Giller said. "Bella is the top player in the conference... I think Andrea and Lauren felt really good about that."
