In typical fashion, the Lynden Christian boys' soccer team held South Whidbey scoreless in a 4-0 win in the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament championship game at Kings High School on Saturday, May 4.
"Four clean sheets in a row," Lynden Christian coach Scott De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "I was incredibly proud of our effort. We put a pretty complete match together against Meridian Thursday, and we played even better today."
Cody Fransen opened up the game with a goal for the Lyncs in the 14th minute off a Luke Reardon assist. Just 16 minutes later, Toby Dalla Santa scored off an assist by Fransen to give Lynden Christian a commanding 2-0 lead, which they never were in jeopardy of losing.
"Our two captains, Toby Dalla Santa and Luke Reardon, were just dynamite today," De Ruyter said. "They really created a lot of chances, and with Cody Fransen, who is just on fire right now, to have these three as a triangle - they really did a great job."
The Lyncs advance to the Class 1A Tri-District tournament where they will face University Prep on Tuesday, May 7, at Sammamish High School.
