Sehome, Nooksack Valley split doubleheader

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 4, 2013

The Sehome softball team held on to win the first game of a doubleheader at Nooksack Valley on Friday, May 3. The Mariners won the Northwest Conference game 19-18 in eight innings but fell 4-3 in the non-conference game that was called short because of darkness and only went five innings.

"It was definitely a heavyweight fight with two teams just slugging it out," Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. "They went out and would rally and get up and then hold on. We did everything we needed to to tie it up and win in the seventh and couldn't do it. Both teams did a lot of things to shoot ourselves in the foot but both teams hit it well."

The Mariners (4-6 NWC, 6-10) were led by Rachel Albert, who went 3 for 6 with a home run and Mallory Kruzich, who went 3 for 6.

Nooksack Valley (4-6 NWC, 10-8) was led by Chloe Gardner, who went 4 for 6 with a home run and Brittney Allen, who went 4 for 6 with a home run.

Nooksack Valley travels to play Bellingham next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, while Sehome hosts Meridian next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Frank Geri Fields.
