THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 4, 2013

Mount Baker earned two wins over Squalicum in a doubleheader at home Friday, May 3. The Mountaineers won the Northwest Conference game 21-0 in five innings and the non-conference game 24-1 in five innings.

"We took advantage of some walks and errors in that first inning of the first game," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "There was seven walks, two hit batters and a few errors and got out there big and I thought the girls stayed focused and were able to play good defense. Aleks didn't strike everyone out so we had to play some good defense."

Mount Baker jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

Emily Yost went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Toivola went 3 for 4 with five RBI in the first game for the Mountaineers (4-6 NWC, 8-8). Megan Young went 3 for 4 with five RBI and Mariah Ladd went 2 for 3 in the second game.

The Storm (1-9 NWC, 2-16) was led by Amanda Chandler, who went 1 for 2 in both games, and Brittney Jorgensen, who went 1 for 2 in the first game.
