Meridian, LC split doubleheader

The Meridian and Lynden Christian softball teams split a double-header on Thursday, May 2, at Meridian, with the Trojans taking the Northwest Conference league game, 8-7, and the Lyncs stealing the non-league game, 11-10.

In the first half, Meridian got a strong offensive push in the sixth inning, scoring four runs including a three-run home run by Bailey Haugen.

"We've been persevering all this year," Meridian coach Tony Johnson said in a phone interview. "We finally came back with four in the bottom of the sixth and we held them off in the seventh."

Madeline Gray also had a home run and two RBI in the win.

In the second half of the double-header, the Lyncs found themselves down 10-1 through the first three innings. Despite the lofty deficit, Lynden Christian strung together five-run innings in the fourth and sixth to take an 11-10 lead.

"They got on base and hit the ball," Johnson said. "They deserved the win (after) coming back from a 10-1 deficit."

Bridget Kruck went 7 for 8 on the day with a home run, four runs and four RBI for the Lyncs.

Angela Roderick had a home run and three RBI for the Trojans in the losing effort.

Lynden Christian (5-13, NWC 1-9) travels to Squalicum on Monday, May 6, while Meridian (5-12, 3-7) plays Sehome on Tuesday, May 7.
