WWU's Berry, Best named GNAC Academic All-Stars


Western Washington University placed two players, first baseman Rachelle Berry and third baseman Cheyenne Best, on the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Academic All-Star team announced Wednesday, May 1.

It is the third straight honor for Berry, a senior from Alger, and the first for Best, a sophomore from Big Lake.

Berry is a business administration major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.40. Best, who has a 3.36 GPA, has yet to declare a major.

Berry batted .264 (14 for 53), hitting three home runs and driving in 11 runs. She also had the team's best fielding average of .985 with just six errors in 199 chances.

Best hit .250 (23 for 92) with 16 RBI and 18 runs scored. She had a .904 fielding average at the hot corner.
