Offensive woes down Blaine 8-2

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 2, 2013

Blaine baseball saw its offense sputter in an opening-round Class 1A District Tournament loss to Friday Harbor, 8-2, on Wednesday, May 1, at Friday Harbor.

The Borderites mustered just two hits - doubles by Matt Vogee and Josh Fakkema - and struck out 10 times against the Wolverines' starting pitcher, Austin Lambright.

"The guy they had on the mound was really good," Blaine coach Sean Linville said in a phone interview. "He was too much for us today."

Zach Rector managed his way through the first four innings while allowing just two runs, but a lack of his usual command led to a high pitch-count and struggles later in the game, Linville said.

"(Rector) pitched competitively today," Linville said in his starter. "He kept us in the game ... He usually goes deeper into games, though."

With the loss, the Borderites (6-15) will play on Thursday, May 2, in the consolation first round of the Class 1A District Tournament.
