Borderites sweep doubles, fall 4-3

The Blaine girls' tennis team fell 4-3 despite winning all of the doubles matches to Anacortes in a make-up Northwest Conference game at home Wednesday, May 1.

"It's a shame we had to make this up later as both teams were missing a couple players," Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview. "I think we would have liked to be at full strength, but it evened out. Now we are getting ready for the postseason."

Blaine (2-6 NWC, 6-10) was led by Alicia Allison and Shirin Roth-Lerner in the second doubles match that won 6-2, 6-0 and Mandy Hayes and Emily Roe, who won the third doubles match 7-5, 7-5.

Blaine will play in the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Thursday, May 9.
