Mountaineers win 16-8

The Mount Baker baseball team came from behind and scored nine runs in the sixth inning to earn a 16-8 win at home against South Whidbey in the first round of the Class 1A Northwest Conference District Tournament on Wednesday, May 1.

"The first four innings were back and forth and we were trailing most of the game until the sixth," Mount Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview. "The big thing for us was that we weren't perfect on the mound or defensively but we still were able to get the win."

Andrew Zender led the Mountaineers (8-13) and went 4 for 5 with three RBI and Cody Larson went 2 for 4 with three RBI.

Nick Larson went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs and Jacob Marr went 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBI.

The Mountaineers had seven players with multiple RBI in the win that advances them to play against Friday Harbor in the semifinals Thursday, May 2, at Pipeline Fields in Blaine.
