Blaine boys fall 6-0 to South Whidbey

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 2, 2013

The Blaine boys' soccer team fell 6-0 at South Whidbey in the first round of the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Wednesday, May 1, and is now eliminated.

"It didn't go as well I as I would have expected," Blaine coach Mike Couto said in a phone interview. "I saw moments where they played like I know they can. I thought in the first 20 minutes or so we really controlled the possession and then we were a little inconsistent."

Bud Halldorson had 15 saves in the effort for the Borderites (3-14-0).

"Blaine played hard and with a lot of heart," Couto said. "This year we lost a lot of close games and are only losing two seniors and so it should be good. I'm really proud of how the team has grown."
