Lyncs get help in 1-0 win

The Lynden Christian boys' soccer team didn't score its goal but still won 1-0 at home against Coupeville in the first round of the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Wednesday, May 1.

Trevor Kamena took a corner kick for the Lyncs (9-5-3) and the ball was knocked around before Coupeville scored an own goal in the 20th minute.

"I thought we did a great job possessing the ball and using our width," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "I think we had about a 79 percent completion rate and we had the opportunities but we just couldn't finish. Their keeper did a great job."

Brady Harvey had three saves in the effort for the Lyncs, who move on to host Meridian in the second round Thursday, May 2.

Scoring: Goal: Coupeville own goal, time: 20:00. Shots on goal: Coupeville 3; LC 12. Goalies (saves): Coupeville: Kolton Kellison (11); LC: Brady Harvey (3).
