WWU's Allen named Basketball Times first-team all-american

Western Washington University men's basketball guard John Allen, a senior from Brier, has been named to the 2013 Basketball Times NCAA Division II first team.

It is the third All-America team for Allen. Earlier, he was a first-team Division II Bulletin and a third-team Daktronics choice. Allen also received Daktronics West Region and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year recognition.

Allen led the Vikings to a 31-3 record, the win total tying the school record; a second straight NCAA II West Regional championship and the semifinals of the Elite Eight.

Allen was WWU's leader in points (17.1 per game average), assists (4.1) and 3-point makes (69). He finished with 1,480 career points, seventh among school leaders. Allen accomplished that in three seasons, the highest total of any Viking not playing four seasons.

Allen also finished 12th among WWU leaders in assists (348) and 14th in steals (157). His free-throw percentage of 89.4 (244-of-273) was a school record.

Allen scored double-figure points a team-high 27 times this season with a high of 38.
