Pioneers score in seventh to win 2-1 over Lyncs


Tanner Myhre outlasted a pickle situation to give the Nooksack Valley baseball team the winning run in the seventh inning to defeat Lynden Christian 2-1 in a Northwest Conference finale Monday, April 29, at Nooksack Valley.

"It was an interesting game with a lot of baserunners that were picked off," Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. "It was an exciting game, and Brandon Valnes is finally coming back and getting healthy just in time."

The Lyncs (2-10 NWC, 7-12) were led by Drake Likkel and Jake Poag, who each went 1 for 2 and Truman Van Dalen, who went 1 for 3.

The Pioneers (3-9 NWC, 6-13) were led by Brandon Turnberg and Joey Scheffer, who each went 1 for 2 and Noah Rawls, who went 1 for 3.

Nooksack Valley will play at Meridian in the first round of the the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Wednesday, May 1, while Lynden Christian will play at Coupeville.
