FISHING: Point Defiance to host lingcod derby Saturday

Anglers can take part in the fifth annual Point Defiance Lingcod Derby on Saturday. Cash and prizes will be awarded for the largest fish.

The derby will run from 5 a.m.-1 p.m. on the opening day of the lingcod fishing season in Marine Area 11.

All fishing rules from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife rules apply during the derby. Only legally caught fish will qualify for prizes.

To be kept, a lingcod must be at least 26 inches long but no longer than 36 inches. The daily limit is one fish.

The entry fee is $15 per angler.

The derby will take place at Point Defiance Marina, 5912 N. Waterfront Drive, Tacoma.
