Mountaineers had chances, let it slip away 8-6 to Friday Harbor

The Mount Baker baseball team fell to visiting Friday Harbor in extra innings, 8-6, on Saturday, April 27.

Both Baker and Friday Harbor did a majority of their work in the first three innings, as a three-run bottom of the third by the Mountaineers led to a 6-6 tie. Friday Harbor finally broke that tie with two runs in the eighth.

"We had chances to win because of the weather in five consecutive innings," Mount Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview. "We had opportunities, but we weren't able to come up with the clutch hit when we needed it."

Jacob Marr took the loss but had two RBI, while Titus Balvanz also had an RBI. The two combined for all three of the Mountaineers' hits.

Mount Baker (7-12, NWC 4-7) will host Meridian on Monday, April 29, in a game that will determine the Northwest Conference's top seed to the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament.
