Emile Diffley scored twice to lead the Bellingham boys' soccer team to a 4-2 victory at Nooksack Valley in a Northwest Conference game Friday, April 26.

"It definitely wasn't a good performance from us," Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview. "We came out flat and defensively we weren't focused."

Conlon Kiffney scored first in the fifth minute and Diffley scored his first goal in the 16th minute. Brad Dale added a third for the Red Raiders (10-0-1 NWC, 14-0-1) 3 minutes later.

"I think we got up early and took our foot off the pedal," Zigulis said. "Nooksack really took advantage of our mistakes. They played like it was a big game and had more urgency. Hats off to them, that was a good performance and I hope we can learn from that game."

Luke VanWingerden scored both goals for the Pioneers (2-9-1 NWC, 4-11-1) in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Diffley scored his second goal in the 64th minute to put the game out of reach for Nooksack Valley.

Bellingham hosts Ferndale in its final NWC game Monday, April 29.

Nooksack Valley enters the Class 1A Northwest District tournament as the NWC 4 seed and will play at the loser of the Meridian and Mount Baker game in the first round.
