Late offense ignites 12-2 win for Ferndale

The Ferndale softball team mounted a strong surge late to defeat Meridian 12-2 on Friday, April 26, in a Northwest Conference matchup at Ferndale.

After Meridian scored in the top of the fifth to tie it up 2-2, the Golden Eagles strung together 10 runs over the next two innings to pull away.

"They had some errors, and we strung a bunch of hits together," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview.

Abby Bauthues was key to the late-inning onslaught, going 3 for 3 with a double and a home run. Collette Brown also chipped in a two-run home run of her own.

"It was a struggle up until the home runs happened," Hilton said. "That loosened people up."

Both Ferndale (7-2 NWC, 11-6) and Meridian (2-7 NWC, 4-10) play on Tuesday, April 30, with the Golden Eagles traveling to Squalicum and the Trojans hosting Burlington-Edison. Both are NWC matchups.
