Late surge lifts Lynden over Lynden Christian, 5-1

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 27, 2013

The Lynden softball team got a gem of a performance from senior pitcher Brooke Bonsen en route to a 5-1 win over Lynden Christian on Friday, April 26, in a Northwest Conference matchup at Lynden.

"Brooke threw pretty well with six strike outs," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "She didn't put a lot of people on, and the defense played well behind her. ... A typical Brooke outing."

With the game tied 1-1 entering the fourth, the Lions were able to put together a couple of strong innings together to get the win.

"LC had a pretty good game plan, and we happened to string a couple of hits together to get some runs in the fourth and fifth."

Destinee Matter had a strong day at the plate for Lynden, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Lynden Christian (1-7 NWC, 3-11) hosts Friday Harbor on Saturday, April 27, while Lynden (8-0 NWC, 11-3) next plays on Monday, April 29, at Sehome.
