Whatcom People: County students honored in college, pageant competition


- These Whatcom County students were named to the winter-quarter Dean's List at Eastern Washington University:

Bellingham: Caitlin Bailey, David Logghe, Jessica Wallace, Kayla Rivers, Lauren Walsh, Madison Cattle, Paige Kulm, Rachael Kresse, Trent Leach and Tyler Wasilewski.

Blaine: Ashley Fairfax.

Deming: Brennen Jacoby, Kristanie Maleng and Miranda Munsell.

Everson: Kelly Brune and Kelsey Lambert.

Ferndale: Allison Chapin and Sarah Cornwell.

Lynden: Brianne Ryan, Joshua Harshman, Puneet Janda, Taralynn Richardson and William Vanderveen.

- Kendall Whitney of Bellingham and five other Western Washington University students were chosen to participate in its College of Business and Economics Leadership Lunch in Bellevue on April 12. The lunch recognizes students who have distinguished themselves through scholarship and leadership while in college. Whitney is pursuing a master's degree in business administration.

- Laura Gelwicks of Everson received a $1,000 Grange Insurance Association scholarship. Gelwicks is attending Western Washington University.

- Alissa Stebbins, 13, of Bellingham is a state finalist in the National American Miss Washington Pageant, to be held Aug. 8 in Tacoma. She is the daughter of Michelle Welch.
