Mount Baker edges Anacortes 2-1


The Mount Baker boys' soccer team defeated Anacortes 2-1 on Thursday, April 25, in a Northwest Conference match up at Mount Baker.

John Douglas opened up the low-scoring affair for the Mountaineers with a goal in the third minute followed by a goal by Anacortes' Takeo Nystrom in the 13th minute.

"We came out right away really strong, getting a goal in the first three minutes." Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interview.

Mount Baker didn't wait long after the half to break the 1-1 tie, scoring in the 53rd minute off a goal by Roman Vetkov. Zan Roman received the assist on the game-winning goal.

The Mountaineers (7-7-1, NWC 4-6-1) host Meridian in their final NWC game Saturday, April 27, in a deciding game between who finishes second and third in the 1A division.
