Bellingham can't sustain strong start in 21-3 loss

The Bellingham softball fell to Anacortes 21-3 in five innings on Thursday, April 25, in a Northwest Conference game at Bellingham.

Despite another difficult showing, Bellingham coach Rick Ellis was proud of his girls and believes they are taking the right steps forward.

"The first inning for us has been a bugaboo, and for us to only give up three runs was a huge bonus," Ellis said in a phone interview. "For us to come back and score two runs in the bottom of the first was really cool to see."

Despite only trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the first, the Red Raiders were unable to sustain that level after giving up 18 runs over the next three innings.

Julia Latimer had a strong outing, finishing the game with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

"I'm real pleased with where she is coming as a ball player," Ellis said of his do-it-all sophomore.
