Bellingham couple wins PSE room makeover contest


BELLINGHAM - Nia and Scott Sayers beat five other families to win the room makeover contest Re-Energized by Design, Puget Sound Energy announced Thursday, April 25.

The Bellingham couple overhauled rooms in their pole barn that they converted to a house. Their creativity included turning old dryer drums into a lighting fixture and transforming an old bowling alley lane segment into a table.

PSE challenged the six competing families to remodel five rooms in five weeks on a budget of $500 per room, except the kitchen at $1,000. They received energy-efficiency items for each room.

Contestants' efforts were documented in weekly webisodes, with one family voted off each week. The Sayers family edged Kay Reilly and Natalie Washington, also of Bellingham, in the final. Other competitors were from Seattle, West Seattle, Shoreline and Redmond.
