BELLINGHAM - At least 200 men are expected at the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Men's March on Saturday, April 27.
Men will walk the mile from Maritime Heritage Park to Boundary Bay Brewery on Railroad Avenue in women's shoes, whether flats or high heels. The 1 p.m. march is intended to raise awareness of men's roles in ending domestic violence and sexual assaults against women.
The college club Western Men Against Violence and, for the first time, the International Firefighters Association Local 106 are hosting the event.
Boys also can participate in the walk. Participants may register the day of the event from noon to 1 p.m.
A limited number of women's shoes in sizes 11 and up will be available. The march is free, but people can make donations or gather pledges as a solo walker or a team of five. Proceeds benefit Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services.
The march will end at the Boundary Bay Brewery Beer Garden for an all-ages party, which is free and open to the public.
