WWU's AS Productions to host Sonics rally Saturday, April 27

Western Washington University's Associated Students Productions is hosting a rally in support of the Sonics' pending return to Seattle at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Carver Gym on WWU's campus.

The rally is called #SonicsAllDay. There will be various activities and giveaways, and former Sonics star Shawn Kemp and co-founder of Save our Sonics will be guest speaking. Kemp will also conduct a meet-and-greet, and Seattle hip-hop group Blue Scholars will perform live.

"The Sonics are an integral part of our history, regardless of where in Washington you live," AS Productions Special Events Coordinator Jordan Renshaw said in press release. "There is a huge student base that are dedicated to the Sonics, and with their impending return, we wanted to throw a huge rally to bring the Bellingham community together."

The Sonics, now Thunder, moved to Oklahoma City before the beginning of the 2008-09 season. The team was founded in Seattle in 1967. An upcoming vote by NBA owners is expected to decide whether or not the Sacramento Kings will remain in Sacramento or be sold to a Seattle group, led by Chris Hansen, and relocate to the Pacific Northwest.

There will be a pre-rally tailgate at 3 p.m. outside Carver Gym complete with food, giveaways and a face-painting booth.
