Police to enforce crosswalks on Samish Way in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - The city is raising awareness of new, lighted crosswalks on Samish Way with extra police patrols on Friday, April 26.

The additional traffic officers will look for speeders and drivers who don't yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks, which were installed earlier this year at Abbott and Consolidation streets.

The crosswalks' flashing lights can be triggered by pedestrians as they start to cross the street.

That section of Samish Way is a busy thoroughfare between Interstate 5 and Western Washington University, lined with restaurants and hotels. The speed limit is 35 mph.
