Lyncs score late, earn 2-2 draw with Trojans

The Lynden Christian boys' soccer team scored in the final minutes to earn a 2-2 draw at home in a Northwest Conference match with Meridian on Tuesday, April 23.

"It was a great battle," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "After we conceded I felt like we got a little timid and Meridian started to get the momentum going. They got that second goal and it really put the pressure on us but I'm proud of the guys for getting that equalizer late to get us a point."

Levi Van Weerdhuizen scored first in the 23rd minute for the Lyncs (5-3-3 NWC, 7-4-3).

Oswaldo Zamora scored in the 25th minute and Zach Donahue scored in the 62nd for Meridian (3-2-5 NWC, 5-4-5).

Cody Fransen scored the final goal in the 78th minute to earn the draw.

"The nice part about getting the point is that we keep putting the pressure on them and we're still up four points on them with a match to go," De Ruyter said. "We're holding on to that No. 1 spot for now."

The Lyncs host Squalicum in a Northwest Conference match Thursday, April 25, while Meridian hosts Sehome.
