Ferndale falls just short in 4-3 loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 24, 2013

The Ferndale girls' tennis team fell just short in its 4-3 loss at home to Anacortes in a makeup non-conference match Tuesday, April 23.

"It was a close battle," Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview. "The doubles played really well, especially the number two and three doubles. They had strong wins."

Ally Bagley and Cassidy Newman won the second doubles match 6-1, 6-0 and Lauren Mattaini and Sydney Cutsforth won the third doubles match 6-3, 7-5 for the Golden Eagles (0-3 NWC, 0-8)

"It was tough because we started this match a month ago and the players have changed," Vendiola said. "I think all the players competed, we just fell a little short today."

Ferndale plays at Squalicum for a Northwest Conference match Wednesday, April 24.
