Sprague lifts Ferndale with three-run blast

The Ferndale baseball team defeated Nooksack Valley 14-4 on Tuesday, April 23, in a Northwest Conference matchup at Nooksack Valley.

A three-run home run in the third inning by Austyn Sprague sparked an otherwise dormant Ferndale offense up until that point, giving the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game.

"Austyn Sprague saw we were down and behind, and he lifted the spirits with that big home run," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "From there, it jump started our offense. After that happened, things started going in the right direction."

Ferndale reeled off nine more runs over the next three innings behind a five-RBI day for Sprague, and a three-run, two-RBI performance by Brady Bauthues.

Nooksack Valley (5-10, NWC 2-6) hosts Burlington-Edison on Thursday, April 25, while Ferndale (12-6, 8-2) welcomes Lynden on Friday, April 26. Both are NWC games.
