Squalicum girls' tennis earns win over Blaine


The Squalicum girls' tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Blaine in a Northwest Conference match at home Monday, April 22.

"I was very pleased with our singles play today, especially," Squalicum coach Joe O'Brien said in a phone interview. "Kirsten Powell made some great improvements in how she played the same gal last time. I was very pleased with her effort today. Sarah Byron also made some tactical changes in the second set and was able to play much better and I was impressed with her ability to make changes."

Powell defeated Saskia Dolk 6-1, 6-0 in the first singles match and Byron defeated Wilkett 6-4, 6-2 in the second singles match for the Storm (3-2 NWC, 6-3).

Emily Grayston and Alex Henderson won the first doubles match for Blaine (0-3 NWC, 3-6) over Zoe Roberts and Makena DeGolier 6-2, 6-3.

Blaine travels to Lynden for a Northwest Conference match Tuesday, April 23, while Squalicum hosts Ferndale on Wednesday, April 24.
