I've worked in the Ferndale community for years, and everyone in my family has regularly used the library for all of the 18 years that we have lived here. I am writing to encourage Ferndale voters to send in their ballots with a strong "yes" vote so the new library can be built, starting this August.
Our library serves our community in ways we don't even realize unless we watch and listen to the myriad of activities going on there. Recently I had the privilege to sit at the library door for several days, encouraging people to register to vote and sharing information about the upcoming election.
I was stunned by the diversity of the hundreds of people who came through the doors. They included all social strata, the elderly, disabled, young families, single adults, kids of all ages. They all came because the library serves their needs.
Simply put, the library is the most welcoming, inclusive and diverse gathering place in our community. It is a treasure beyond measure. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and always works hard to meet the needs of any patron seeking assistance.
For a homeowner with a house worth $250,000 the bond will cost $11.86 each year. Yup, for less than $1 a month we'll get a library for goodness sake! You can get a pizza for $12, but how long does it last? Vote "yes" so Ferndale's library can nourish us all for many years to come.
