DNR: Volunteer honored for efforts at Gravel Pack In

April 21, 2013

Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark honored Ron Downing with a Volunteer Hero award at the eighth annual Great Gravel Pack-In April 13. The event is an annual volunteer trail improvement project at the Capitol State Forest.

Volunteer Heroes are nominated by the public and chosen, based on their sustained service, superior performance, leadership, and commitment to the state Department of Natural Resources volunteer program, said an agency news release.

Goldmark presented a certificate, a jacket and a Volunteer Hero patch to Downing at the Pack-In. Downing has been a supporter of the event from the event’s beginning.

Downing also has contributed hundreds of hours to develop equestrian trails in the DNR-managed Elbe State Forest.
